Could this be an opportunity to upgrade?

So my rear diff slips a little on takeoff and when I changed fluid there was a little metal and pins were not tight. At this point I could have a local place do the rebuild for about $800. I currently have an 8.8 (R7) axle code...4.0 auto trans 4x4 (2002 XLT). Some have suggested getting another rear end at J-yard...but what if I get another one that has same issue.
Since Ford will not pay for it (some of the 2002 were recalled for this just this issue but not mine).

In 2010 rangers went to disc brakes. We know the drum brakes suck (in my opinion).

Will a 2010 rearend bolt directly in an 2002 without a bunch of fab work??

Just thinking that would be a great way to fix rear diff issue and upgrade brakes same time.
